Nurse's Notes
by Jodie Schooley, RN - TOA Medical Administrator
December was a month of battling malaria. Almost half of the children at Treasures of Africa were diagnosed with malaria at the same time. Thank God none of them had the severest symptoms, but it made for a lot of running to the clinic to be tested and get medicine. When a child has a fever here, I always have to rule out malaria first because we do not want malaria to go untreated due to its dangers. Then after treatment with the appropriate medication, each child needs to be retested to see if the medicine did its job. For most of the children, the malaria was still showing in their blood requiring another round of the medication. Several of the children had to take the medicine 2 or 3 times. But I am happy to say that they are all negative for malaria now and doing fine.
The Bible promises that “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17) and we know that malaria is a weapon of the enemy. Malaria is a very big problem here in Tanzania but we know that the name of Jesus is even more powerful and we are looking to Him. Thank you for standing on the Word of God with us against this problem.

EDITORS NOTE:
The expense of the multitude of doctor appointments, lab tests and medication for this battle with malaria was a costly one! It really drained the budget in December. But even more expensive was the gas to drive back and forth to the medical clinic for all those appointments! TOA is in serious need of a small fuel efficient car for our nurse’s use, since driving our truck or van (the only 2 vehicles owned by the orphanage) back and forth to town is expensive. Please pray for that need to be covered! We could purchase a small used Toyota car for about $7,000.
