Investing In The African Church

Imagine being an African pastor, living out in a bush area in Tanzania, serving some of the poorest of the poor, and rarely receiving any encouragement or spiritual input yourself. You daily watch people struggling to survive and do your best to inspire hope and faith, at the same time believing God for your own daily bread.

Such is the life of many a pastor in Africa. Without access to Christian TV or radio or the wealth of written materials easily available in the western world, many pastors in rural Tanzania have few opportunities to be personally spiritually refreshed, taught and encouraged. When there are conferences held in the major cities, they cannot afford to attend. The cost of a hotel room for one night would surpass their monthly income.

For this reason, Hidden With Christ Ministries has been committed to sponsoring Pastors Conferences in East Africa which target pastors in rural areas. We pay for the venue, the food and lodging and help with transportation expenses. We bring in speakers from various ministries who have a heart to encourage and lift up our brethren in Africa.

In October, HWCM will be sponsoring two important conferences. One will be held in the city of Moshi (where the TOA orphanage is located) and will draw pastors from across the country. The second will be held in the Maasai area of Esilalei and will draw many pastors who minister in the bush in both Tanzania and Kenya.

We are expecting 300 attendees at each conference and have instructed the pastors to bring their wives, so that they will be refreshed as well. Traditionally, attendance at pastors conferences is nearly 100% male, and the pastors leave their wives at home. We plan to minister to them as couples in the ministry together, and for many of them, this will be the first time they have ever traveled to a conference with their spouse and stayed in a hotel! It is our heart to strengthen the church in East Africa by strengthening and encouraging the leadership.
