A Furry Addition To The Family
by Lydia Schaeffer – TOA Director
We have a new addition here at Treasures of Africa Children’s Home. It is a kitten that the children named Milo, after the cat in the movie “Milo and Otis.” I wasn’t too sure about getting a cat because I didn’t know how it would survive the resident hawk who lives in a tree above the orphanage and swoops down and steals flip-flops that are lying around in the yard. But Milo has proven to be a survivor. He is growing up fast and soon will be out of the danger of becoming hawk food. Milo fits in just perfectly with the children here. The babies run after him and scream with delight. The other children hold him like a stuffed animal. Milo never scratches or bites anyone. He runs around outside playing all day long. He is also helpful against any wayward mice or rats that might be thinking about coming inside the building - which was the primary reason we obtained him. It is fun to watch the children when they are outside playing with Milo. They run around screaming and chasing him, ride with him down the slide, and swing him on the tire swing. He is a welcome addition, making TOA feel more and more like a family home than ever. |
